Speaker: Dr. Freya Sonenstein

The League of Women Voters has worked to empower voters and defend democracy in Baldwin County for more than a century. The League of Women Voters is a nonpartisan, grassroots organization founded after women got the right to vote. Its mission is to protect and expand voting rights and ensure everyone is represented in our democracy. Dr. Sonenstein will describe the work of our local league as we prepare for the midterm elections.

Freya Sonenstein trained as a sociologist and is a professor emerita at Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health. Her career was devoted to conducting social policy research intended to improve the welfare of families and children. After retirement, she joined the League of Women Voters of Baldwin County and has worked with many others to build the league into an organization that promotes informed participation of everyone in our government and its policymaking.
