DESCRIPTION:“Gulfquest” to “National Maritime Museum of the Gulf of Mexico” \n\n\n\nA history of the museum\, its new name\, rebranding\, and why it’s somewhere you should visit. Opened in September 2015\, the GulfQuest Museum in downtown Mobile had earned a mixed reputation among locals. Now rebranded\, it has become a fantastic destination and offers something for maritime enthusiasts of all ages. \n\n\n\nRaised in Tuscaloosa\, Jeremiah graduated from the Savannah College of Art and Design in 2016 with a BFA in Film and Television. During his time in Savannah\, he gave paranormal and history walking tours of the town. For the past 24 years he has worked in the film and television industry. He joined the GulfQuest Museum in downtown Mobile in October 2023\, engaging with museum visitors about the Gulf.

DESCRIPTION:What Would Mama Do? Growing Up an “Almost” Orphan \n\n\n\nLila’s mother died days before Lila’s ninth birthday. Her dad abandoned the two youngest of his six children. Lila and her younger brother were left on their own to look after themselves: feeding\, health care\, schooling\, and everything else. Lila and her brother struggled daily\, but their fierce love for their lost mama\, God\, and each other saw them through. \n\n\n\nLila Marie Ryals lives in Fairhope\, Alabama\, still in the small cottage on North Summit Street. At age 91\, she is happy and healthy (probably due to her early years of hard work\, lots of walking\, and eating fruits and vegetables). If you’re out and about in the early mornings\, you may see her… she still walks about five miles a day around Fairhope!

However nuclear  plants are susceptible to accidents depending on location and terrorist activity. Waste disposal is also an unsolved issue. \n\n\n\nElaine Snyder-Conn was an Environmental Contaminant Specialist in U.S Fish and Wildlife Service for 18 years and conducted and published research on pesticides in water\, arctic snow\, sediments\, birds\, fish and invertebrates in the North West.  She also served as National Integrated Pest Management Coordinator for the Service\, reviewing pesticide use in national wildlife refuges and hatcheries throughout U.S.

Sandy will highlight the Trailblazers mission and history and the way they encourage active lifestyles and  safe places for walking\, including the Walking School Bus program and advocacy for the county-wide bike and pedestrian connectivity plan._ \n\n\n\nSandy Tormoen is President of Baldwin County Trailblazers and an avid cyclist\, walker\, and sunset admirer. She is Finance chair for the E. S. Democrats and on the Finance Committee for the Fellowship. She retired from Federal Reserve Bank of Richmond. She has three grown children\, two grandchildren\, & many dear friends.

Strands pass through barely perceptible pinoles and permeable cells\, creating conjunctions to be investigated\, interwoven or reworked. Hume says “All ideas emerge from conjunction.” My art exhibition currently on display at Fairhope Unitarian Fellowship is like a book composed of pages\, concepts\, and images..” \n\n\n\nPinky received her MFA in Photography at age 50 and has had over 40 solo/duo exhibitions as well as work in numerous museums and collections. She recently was awarded an Alabama State Arts Council Impact Award. She spent her early years during WWII in Fairhope and returned hereto lived in the late 80s.

DESCRIPTION:Albert Schweitzer and Reverence for Life: Love\, Mercy\, and Stewardship\n\nBob Echols will introduce attendees to the great humanitarian\, Albert Schweitzer\, and his renowned ethos of a reverence fro life\, the irrefragable tenet that all life is possessed of innate worth and value\, and that our sacred duty as mankind is to serve as stewards of all life around us. He will provide examples of reverence for life.\n\nBob Echols grew up in Exeter\, NH and got his B.A. from New York University and his J.D./M.B.A. from Emory University. He served in the Army as an active-duty Army attorney at West Point from 1982 to 1986. He then worked as attorney and ethics/compliance officer for several Defense contractors. Bob then served as Founder/President of the Four Our Friends the Animals\, constructing animal rescues and shelters. A cancer survivor\, Mr. Echols writes about reverence for life.

DESCRIPTION:Honest to God: Religion and Denial that Climate Change is Caused by Us \nData shows unequivocally that global warming is the result of human activity. The 2021 General Social Survey shows that a half of all Americans don’t accept that global warming is caused by us. The main causes of this appear to be fundamentalist Christian beliefs and a lack of scientific literacy in the United States. \nDr. Kenneth Hudson is Professor Sociology at the University of South Alabama. He holds degrees in religion\, psychology\, social work\, and sociology from Mobile College\, University of Louisville\, and University of North Carolina. The focus of his teaching and research is on poverty\, social stratification\, human inequality\, and research methods.

DESCRIPTION:Sarah Wright: Alabama Cotton and Bemis Bags: Pieces into Quilt History\nFeedsack quilts represent the artistic expression of American women in a distinctive textile era\, 1930‒1960\, when quilts were created from colorful\, patterned fabrics that started out as feed or flour sacks. Many of these bags originated in the cotton fields of Alabama with Bemis Bro. Bag Company in Bemiston\, Alabama. Once used these bags placed millions of yards of free fabric in the hands of creative women to create quilts.\n\nWright holds a B.A. in psychology from Samford University and  was curator for “Our Quilted Past\,” an exhibit of Alabama feedsack quilts and Bemis Bro. Bag Company\, and her research on the subject is published in “Uncoverings 2013.” Sarah is a contributing author to “Alabama Quilts” (2020) and Southern Quilts (2017).
